Love Yourself: We Have to do Better

body positivityBeing a woman (mother) in 2020 is not for the faint of heart. Living in a world where we are exposed to so much on a daily basis can be a blessing or a curse. We have so much at our disposal to make us better. But now more than ever we have people to compare ourselves to at every turn. As women and mothers it is unhealthy to subscribe to the notion that we have to look a certain way. We have to do better, they are watching.

Our daughters are tomorrow’s women. They already get exposed to so many false realities. It is our job to teach them what is real and what is healthy. Right now we are setting the standard that they will live by.

As mothers and women we have to take that job seriously.

These people we made? They are our tomorrow, so for today the weight of the world is quite literally on our shoulders and in our arms.

body positivityThe best thing we can teach them is to love everyone, including themselves. It is so important and so hard to teach.

You can not tell your daughter to love herself while you hate yourself.

I believe the crash diet culture is on its way out and I have never been more happy to see something fizzle. We, as mothers and as female allies, have to fiercely protect and teach the new generation of women to absolutely love themselves. They have to eat salads and go on jogs sure, that is part of life. But they also need to eat 2 slices of cake when the occasions call for 2 slices of cake!

Balance. They need to see that we care about our health but will not base our decisions on a number or mold. Body positivity

You can not teach your daughter to have a healthy relationship with her body (and what she puts in it) while you actively and openly hate yours.

Mama, you do not have to be perfect. You do not have to fit into a mold or size 8 jeans.

Your obligation is much broader than a size, number, or diet. Your obligation is to make sure your daughter never thinks she is less because she is different. We are all different and that is the most perfect thing about us.
