There really is a holiday for everything these days. Some of them are silly, and some are my new favorite days of the year, I.E. NATIONAL LAZY MOM’S DAY! I definitely celebrate this one way more often than once a year, but #selfcare right? September is also Self-Care Awareness Month so you’re knocking out 2 holidays at once, and who doesn’t love multi-tasking?
Finding ways to be lazy can be difficult when there’s always something to be done, but it doesn’t have to be a whole undertaking. It could be as simple as ordering a pizza so you can get out of the kitchen, or letting your kids have some extra screen time while you go take a bath or sit outside for a moment of peace. Being lazy could also include more elaborate plans like taking a spa day, moms night out, or having your partner take the kiddos out of the house for awhile to just enjoy the silence (that’s a personal fav of mine). For me, taking a few moments each day to decompress and recharge is huge. I need a little bit of time to focus on myself and what I want to do. It’s important for our kids to see us prioritize and value ourselves. They should see that our sole purpose isn’t to be at their beck and call and that, sometimes, they need to fend for themselves. Our kids need to understand that there is nothing wrong with saying “I need some me time” so they will begin to do that for themselves as they get older. We don’t have to be totally immersed in our “mom lives” that we forget about having a personal life and maintaining a sense of ourselves.
Some of my favorite ways to be lazy are: sitting on the couch watching movies with wine, junk food, and social media; sitting outside on the back porch; or even going to a movie alone.
I recently put out a poll on Facebook to see how you guys like to be lazy and here were some of your suggestions:
Whitney- My fav way to be lazy is a gloomy stormy day, trash TV, and uninterrupted naps!
Grace- pedicures and monthly hair appointments
Erin- Netflix and Starbucks Medicine Ball tea in an empty house
Jess- ice coffee on the couch in PJs w/netflix
Ashley- Take out aka not cooking or making a mess and staying in bed watching shows/movies!
Kristen- Honestly, any alone time! Reading books, drinking coffee early in the morning before the chaos starts, girls nights out. Just time where gosh I love my family but where they aren’t around
Jan- Meeting friends for drinks & music
Charlene- read in lounge wear with coffee or wine
Lorre James- nap
Kim- I come home and immediately change my clothes into pajamas lol, make tea, light candles and scroll through Facebook/Netflix. I’m OCD about my rituals!
Cindy- Serenity Spa. Go early, work out, hang out in the hot tub, get a massage and hang out in the quiet area and read a book until I fall asleep. Wake up and eat snacks and sip on tea
Dawn- murder shows and cooking
I love being efficient and knocking out a massive list of to-dos, but sometimes it’s important to put down the list and pick up our feet. We don’t have to be machines every waking hour of the day and some of our mom duties can wait. We need to start being more selfish and adding ourselves to the list. We work so hard for everyone in our lives, why don’t we dedicate a little bit of that effort to ourselves? We deserve it mamas!
So for National Lazy Mom’s Day (which can be celebrated EVERY day) take at least a few minutes to yourself and be a lazy mom!
