Easter Happenings Around Destin + 30A

Spring is here–Easter is upon us! The flowers are in bloom, the grass is bright green and lush, and we “hide” neon-colored, plastic, toy-filled eggs in the most obviously inconspicuous places we can, so that our kids will believe it’s a real challenge. My 4-year-old’s ability to pick up toys from our living room floor leaves me doubtful that she will find every egg I forgot I hid. But, place those toys inside plastic eggs and scatter them across an open field, and she will pick them up faster than I can say, “Just wait until your Daddy gets home!” Yes, even that egg I hid in the potted plant! #Protip ONLY hide the plastic eggs. DO NOT hide the eggs you boiled and dyed. Inevitably, you’ll forget how many you hid and where. On the off-chance you can’t rely on your toddler to find them all, you’ll be rage-cleaning your fridge next month, wondering why it still smells like your Great-Aunt Gertrude’s egg salad.

So, if you’re like me, you’d prefer if someone else handles the egg-stra work so you can enjoy time with your Snuggle Bunnies. Fortunately, our community comes together for family-friendly festivities. Various venues around Destin and 30A will be filling the eggs and filling this weekend with family fun activities!

+Saturday will be hoppin’ as the City of Destin hosts its annual Easter Egg Hunt at Morgan Sports Complex on April 16 at 9:00am. Baby Bunnies will have their own special zone, while the big kids can really hop to it.

+Village of Baytowne Wharf’s Easter Explosion promises to be an EGG-cellent time for all your little chicks on Saturday, April 16 from 12:00pm-3:00pm. Family fun activities include arts and crafts, face-painting, pictures with The Bunny, and more.

+On Sunday afternoon, events are more widespread so you’ll have plenty of EGG-citement for your post-Church celebrations. Your Easter Sunday will be jam-packed tighter than a Peeps Chick in a tiny plastic egg that won’t snap closed.

+Visit the Easter Bunny at HarborWalk Village and receive a free photo. Golden Egg Hunt and kids’ activities along Destin Harbor start at 2:00pm.

+LuLu’s Destin will be hopping from 1:00pm-3:00pm on Sunday, April 17, with Easter Bunny photos and prize-filled eggs.

+Peeps and pooches can both hop into the festivities at Grand Boulevard on April 14. Doggie EGGstravaganza, presented by Dog-Harmony from 5:30pm-7:30pm, is free and open to the public. Snacks will be available for pups and pup parents. For any decked out doggies willing to pose for photos, or sniff out eggs, a $15 donation is suggested.

+If you’re out in the 30A area, you can bring your Peeps to celebrate with E.B. at Seaside Amphitheater on Sunday, April 17 from 11:00am-2:00pm. Egg Hunt starts at 1:00pm and will include 15,000 eggs!

+Hop on over to North Beach Social for Easter Sunday family fun including face-painting, bunny treats, Easter Egg Hunt, and live music from Wildlife Special3 from 1:00pm-4:00pm.

Whatever your Easter celebrations include, I hope you have an EGG-cellent time! I also hope you’ve found that the Greatest Prize is something you don’t even need to hunt for. God’s promise of forgiveness was offered freely for everyone when Jesus paid our debts on the Cross and was Resurrected. The prize-filled eggs are merely a symbol of the empty tomb left behind when Christ was raised from death and rolled away the stone. Whether your Easter traditions include a powerful Sermon during a Lilly-adorned Church service, a big family meal where everyone fills up on stuffed eggs before the ham is sliced, or toting your child’s Easter Basket, following them around a grassy park and pointing to every egg you spot (that they’ve already passed), enjoy the time with your Peeps.
