Week Four of Our Spring Cleaning Challenge: Your Closet

0

This week is all about our main closet with our spring cleaning challenge! I tend to avoid my closet and then sporadically go through a giant purge once a year…with no real organization in-between. Tonya of Sorted 30A is breaking it down for us and setting us up for success!

“Today let’s talk about your closet….because it’s not all about the kids (well, not always!) and we deserve some self love too.  The goal is to create a space where you feel calm and happy while you get ready for your day.  Having an organized, functional closet is an important step in the flow of your morning routine.  Starting your day off on a positive note not only makes a difference in how the rest of your day goes, it can set the mood for the entire family.

Let’s get started…

First, remove all of the clothes and sort them by type: shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, etc.

Remove any items that no longer fit, are no longer in good condition, or that you know you will not wear.  Donate any of those items that are still in good condition.

It’s time to hang your clothes.

Using matching hangers will make the biggest visual impact in an organized closet.  Use the same style, whether wood, velvet, or plastic, as well as the same color.  *using the type that can hang both shirts and pants will save time when looking for a free hanger to use in your closet.  Also choosing a style with a rotating neck can save frustration if you need to turn the hanger around.

When returning the clothes to your closet hang everything facing you as you enter so that you can see what you have.

Hang all shirts together, pants together, dresses together, etc.  *Pro tip: hang by sleeve length (sleeveless to long sleeve) as well as by color (light to dark).  No more searching for your favorite blue tank top hanger by hanger, you know it will be with the sleeveless, blue shirts!

If you have shelves in your closet you can fold jeans and sweaters, or display hats, bags, or shoes.

Put lesser used items, such as dressy heels or seasonal wear, on higher shelves.

Use baskets to store accessories like scarves or belts.

You want to be able to walk through your closet and choose the perfect outfit for your day.  Grab a top, bottoms, shoes and accessories and you’re on your way to have a wonderful day!”
