Spring Break Survival Tips for Destin 30a Locals

0

As spring break approaches, I start preparing for all the CHANGES we locals make. Every year I’m shocked again by the amount of Cray Cray that we endure. But every year I prepare better and find more solutions to the madness. Each season of tourist bring different “struggles.” So for the next few weeks I will be in my Spring Break Routine and here are some tips for Destin, 30A  Locals.

#Tip 1-Grocery Shopping

Navigating a store with sunburnt spring break kids in their 20’s is just too much for me. Between them not watching where they putting their carts full of frozen pizza, cases of Coors Light and handles of Boons Farm and clearing off the shelves like a hurricane is coming. My solution, I just get out my phone and I use my grocery delivery. Before you local wino’s ask, YES they DELIVER WINE AND BEER to Destin and 30A. Hint use one that doesn’t up-charge and gives you all the sale prices (Prime from Whole Foods, you’re welcome).

# Tip 2 Early Byrd Gets the Worm

Somethings just can’t be delivered! I have a love of our local 30a farmers market and I just won’t give that up, so I go early! See, it’s not just the products, it’s the people who make them! Something about having a connection to the families who make my “Noli South Kambutcha” or “JC’s Snappy Dip” that an app just won’t give. Get out before spring break hangovers get up the key to shopping In general.

#Tip 3 PLAY While They Eat

Go to the beach while they swarm our restaurants! Parking opens up after the masses exit. Sunset is fine with me anyway, let’s face it l’m a pale pale person who can look at the sun and burn. And plus that’s peak bone fire time!

#Tip 4 Stay in its Raining

If it rains do not go to the movie! And if another “Frozen” or “Toy Story” movie comes out you must get your ticket online. Rain+Tourist+Construction=Wrecks. So don’t get out stay in, we finally have a few food delivery services so let’s use them. Heads up order well before you get hungry.

#Tip 5 – Going into “Town”

When I do have travel to the big “D” (Destin) I check off a long list of things and use curb side service. During spring break my awesome girlfriends and I text “Do you need anything from…..”. Its usually Target and no need for everyone to suffer the trip. For me taking the Beach Road “Old 98” is a must so I can remember why I live here, the emerald green water and white sand. People watching is an added bonus, shocker the pavement is hot on your bare feet and someone forgot sunscreen!!!!

#6- Saturday and HWY 331

If you need travel on 331 go South before 12 and North later in the afternoon or else you will be in bumper to bumper check-in check-out traffic !!!

I have to be honest sometimes it’s fun when we “play tourist” and tour our town, drinking 32oz mimosas walking across the street slowly while cars pile up. Just like spring break tourist with out a care in the world. In all truth we NEED the tourist but they only get to vacay where we get to LIVE.
