‘Twas the Night Before Summer Break

0

‘Twas the night before summer break and all through the house, not a creature was sobbing, not even my spouse. The kids were all tucked up quiet in bed, while visions of screen time danced through their heads. Suddenly, out of the quiet appeared my 6 year old child with eyes full of fear. He grabbed his stomach then let out a belch, an awful noise he just could not squelch. What is this? What’s wrong? What is the matter? He ran to the bathroom with hardly a clatter. Heaving was heard in the hall far and near, as I cried, “Haven’t we done enough of this all year?”

I raise a quick prayer up to the sky, my hope for a full night sleep still at an ultimate high. Then swiftly there arose such a clash, my little one running, making a dash. I now need new sheets and blankets and bears. I begrudgingly begin my trip back up the stairs. This school year is hanging on for dear life, germs constantly causing me strife.

I get both kids settled back in the black, and head back down for what I hopes not a nap. Summer break is coming in hot this year, not even day one and I don’t want to cheer. I climb in my bed and lay down in a hurry, my eyelids dusky, drooping and blurry. My last thought as I drift of to sleep, merry summer break to all, and to all a good “Mooom”…night.
