Summer Mom Reading to Get a Head-Start

0

School is out and Summer is here. Hopefully you are finding yourself with extra time to re-energize and reorient yourself as a mom & person. I personally like to use the slower pace of summer to self educate or revisit favorite books that are a breeze to finish so I can enjoy FINISHING something. Here are some titles to add to your summer mom reading list!

So, here are my favorite books for summer mom reading to Get a head-start this fall.

Education, Emotions, Triggers
  1. Education by Design, Not Default by Janet Newberry. If you want to know how powerful oxytocin and cortisol are in the lives of your children read this book. Your eyes will be opened and you will learn how to implement love over fear and to healthfully allow your children to struggle without shame as they learn at school and in life.
  2. Triggers by Wendy Speake and Amber Lia. Mom rage is real and is finally gaining some traction in the mental health world. If you find yourself losing it over the summer because your precious children are simply home more and are triggering you, you will find SO much wisdom and strength from this book. I’ve listened to it twice AND the accompanying book “Parenting Scripts”.
  3. Are My Kids on Track by Sissy Goff. If you find yourself pondering the emotional maturity of your children and wondering if they are growing up to be “OK” this book is a great starting point for understanding emotional maturity and its natural growth in children.
  4. Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne. Payne does a masterful job helping parents realize what is truly important for children to lead happy, healthy, and secure childhoods…less is MORE.
  5. Raising Good Humans by Hunter Clarke-Fields. Hands down the best parenting book I ever listened too. If you’re wondering how to be less reactive and more proactive in your parenting this book will guide you all the way through.
  6. Desperate: hope for the mom who needs to breathe by Sara Mae & Sally Clarkson. If you’re drowning in diapers, dirty laundry, dust balls, and dishes wondering if there is a purpose to it all Sarah and Sally’s words will encourage (and challenge) your weary soul.
Simplicity, Desperate, Good Humans

Even if you’re traveling this summer, as a mom, I think its a good idea to take a bite out of parenting books in the summer so you can be prepared again for the fall and all its frenzy! Most of these books are on Audible. So, happy reading or happy listening! Let me know your favorite parenting books on IG @LivvyRoberts

In her "spare" time she loves to read, write, yoga, swim, or run. She always prefers home cooked meals & holistic medicine for her family, but you wont find her in the kitchen on the weekends or without all the bleach in the event of a stomach bug. Balance, people. Balance. Espresso, dark chocolate, hot tea, pizza, and red wine are her favorites. You can follow her on Instagram @livvyroberts
