IT Gets Better (A White Lie I Tell)

0

It gets better.

I found myself saying that phrase to a few friends recently when talking about mom life, kids, and relationships.  Maybe I shouldn’t tell them it gets better.

Maybe I should tell them the truth.

The truth is – it doesn’t always get better.  There.  I said it.  Sometimes whatever IT is you are going through doesn’t get better.   Sometimes the IT makes you feel sad, angry, depressed, checked out, or numb, but IT is making you a better person.  Even with the pain of IT happening.

However you have to go through your IT to grow and learn.

So the IT you are going through right now sucks.  I get it.  We ALL get it.  We all have been through IT.  Maybe our stories aren’t exactly the same, but we all have had those same feelings.  Look at us!  I mean really look at all the people in your life.  Not those you see only through social media settings, but those you see in real life.

Every single person you see in real life has been through IT, and they are still moving forward and learning from whatever their IT is.

When I tell you that it gets better what I really mean is that you will get through whatever is troubling you at that moment.  No matter how long it takes, you will get through it!  Yes, it sucks that you have to go through whatever it is that is troubling you, but the crazy part about waiting for it to get better is – one day you will suddenly realize that it did get better and that you actually learned something from going through your IT.

It gets better.  And IT will probably make you a better person.

So maybe I’m not lying when I tell you it gets better.  However, maybe I should choose better words of encouragement.  I should tell you that it will take time for you to be okay and when you need me, I will be there for you.  No judgement, no questions, with a shoulder to lean on and listening ears.

It gets better.
