Why That Halftime Show Was For Us, Millennial Moms

“One, two, three, and to the four”… HOW AMAZING WAS THAT HALFTIME SHOW?! We survived dysentery on the Oregon trail. We lived through (and dare I say thrived) with dial up internet. We sprinted to the bathroom and hurdled the couch to not miss the start of our favorite shows on TGIF each week. After 2+ years of changes, virtual everything, physical health checks, mental health checks…and doing our best to keep all the plates spinning…this was our time to shine and sing every last word as they performed on Sunday! Fellow millennial moms, this halftime show was for us!

The performances were like a time capsule into my middle high and high school years. 50 cent even took me into my freshmen year of college with ‘In da Club’! Windows down. Music blasting. I drove a manual car so I had obviously perfected changing the CD while steering and shifting when necessary #safetyfirst. Printing off mapquest pages to somehow navigate to concerts and surviving the journey. Life was simple and carefree.

You, dear mama friend, had been put through it the last couple of years. You have been thrown obstacle after obstacle, change after change, and you are still standing. You have walked the hard and holy road of finding your rhythm of feeling your feelings while also being the glue that so often holds your family together. And honestly? You inspire me.

I hope that on Sunday, you turned up the volume. Sang all the words at the top of your lungs. Smiled until your face hurt. And that it felt like the weight lifted a bit, even if only for those few minutes. Because, millennial mom friends, that halftime show was for us!
