Four Reasons You Should Become a Mindful Mama

There is no denying parenting is hard work. Simply, it’s a lifetime commitment to other people…you always have your family and they always have you. My parenting journey was easy in the beginning only because I hadn’t met my match yet.  Then I did and now I have zero pride left. But I do have a treasure trove of personal growth gems. Because let’s face it, parenting really isn’t about children, it’s all about our responses to our children. So, that’s why I have four reasons you should become a mindful mama. Mindfulness is another piece to my personal parenting puzzle that has made all the difference.

If you’re feeling stuck, become a mindful mama.

Four reasons you should become a mindful mama…

  1. You Yell. Yelling is natural.  In stressful situations our pre frontal cortex of our brains literally shuts down and we go into fight or flight responses (cue the yelling) It happens to all of us. But if it is happening more than you think is appropriate try a mindfulness meditation specifically designed for moms.
  2. You Breathe Shallow. Oxygen is life. Corny but true. And if you are walking around breathing short shallow breaths you are simply not getting enough oxygen. Taking just 5 minutes each day to practice diaphragmatic breathing through mindfulness has a myriad of health benefits.
  3. You’re Easily Distracted. Our brains have to practice not being distract-able. And in our social media scrolling era we truly have to double down our personal efforts on not being distracted. Sure, the dopamine hits from social media scrolling feel good. But if you can’t bake a box cake without scrolling on your phone you could benefit from intentional mindfulness moments to help strengthen your focus.
  4. You Can Feel Your Body React. If you notice your lips pursing, your jaw clenching, your shoulders raising, or your body stiffening whenever your children are being children (aka loud and messy;)) then you may need to stop and check in with your body through mindfulness. Pausing at the beginning and end of your day can help you become more proactive to those childish scenarios instead of reactive with your physical aches and pains.
